Artist Statement:
Drawn to painting for its intrinsic value, I seek the sheer experience of it and the opportunity to explore images and ideas I might otherwise ignore. Painting is a response to life and often reveals metaphorical insights into the subtleties of our existence. Symbols, line, color are all powerful conveyances of unspoken ideas. I paint because it allows me to dwell in beauty and reinforces my belief in the restorative power of creativity. The practice of art is a source of hope and renewal.

Description of Work:
Working mostly in oils, I fluctuate between using thin, transparent glazes and thick, textural strokes. A lifelong love of music often leads me to paint musical subjects and I am intrigued by the attempt to translate music into color - hence, my Synesthetic Series. My art experiences inspire me to teach art to incarcerated women, using the healing freedom of creative thinking to offer them hope by helping them develop a new vision for their lives.
